Mays Chemical (Mays) is a national distributor of chemical and raw materials. Since its inception in 2009, Spot has provided logistics services to Mays, including running their truckload and LTL loads. After numerous strategy discussions on their freight operations, Spot was able to offer a one-stop shop solution to solve many of the issues that were prevalent in Mays’ logistics department.
Opportunity
Prior to Spot, Mays was utilizing multiple brokers to deliver to their food, personal care, and pharma customers. In addition, Mays had time-consuming, manual processes for tendering, maintaining routing guides, building orders, and invoice auditing. They also had limited visibility of their LTL and truckload shipments, which caused delays when needing to update their customers on active loads. Spot quickly realized that Mays needed a single-source freight provider and a technology solution to increase efficiency and streamline operations.
Solution & Results
Mays now has one dedicated on-site Spot employee that focuses solely on coordinating all truckload and LTL lanes as well as providing timely updates to the Mays team. In fact, after one year of partnering with Mays, Spot saved Mays nearly $100,000 by actively renegotiating their LTL tariffs, and protected them from the volatile freight market with contracted truckload rates. Mays also utilizes Spot’s proprietary transportation management software, MySpot TMS, which has significantly improved Mays’ efficiency. These processes include automatic shipment scheduling with carriers, customized reporting, and live shipment tracking.
