CARRIER OF THE YEAR: GARNER TRUCKING

December 16, 2020

Carriers are the backbone of our success. Without our carriers, we wouldn’t be able to offer our shippers the quality and reliability they’ve come to expect from us.

We’re thrilled to recognize Garner Trucking as our Carrier of the Year for 2020! They effectively service the highest-volume lane for our largest customer and always deal with an enormous amount of weekly changes to their schedule without hesitation. Garner is a 4-time winner of the “Best Fleets to Drive For Award”, and we certainly understand why. Read on for a Q&A to learn more about Garner and their take on the transportation industry.

Tell us about your founding: Garner Trucking was founded in 1960. At that time, we transported agricultural products and had just 1 truck & 1 driver, our founder Vern Garner. Since then, we have grown into the dry van fleet that we operate today.

What does your company specialize in?: We specialize in running dry van freight for the home improvement, beverage/bottle, appliances, and dog food industries.

Why do you enjoy working with Spot?: The people make the difference! Spot understands both the carriers’ & customers’ perspectives. They do a tremendous job of communicating with both parties and resolve challenges with efficiency. Extended contracts and timely pay are both real benefits of doing business with Spot as well.

If you could change one thing about the transportation industry, what would it be?: The ebb and flow of rates – price gouging on either side of the fence does not do anything for the customer or for truck owners.

What part of the country do you enjoy driving through the most?: Garner prefers the Midwest region because it’s our backyard. We understand the infrastructure, and we are a regional carrier with a 350 average mile length of haul. We work every week to get our drivers home for their rest breaks so they may spend quality time with their families.

What is your favorite part about being in the logistics industry?: It begins with the people within our industry. Transportation is extremely innovative due to the challenges that arise. The variety of these daily challenges and the people who overcome these hurdles are what make the industry so great.
