Create a solid resume
How you present your resume is just as important as its content. Make sure it is clean, clear, and easy to read; this will convey a sense of professionalism. Include all relevant experience, including volunteer work and internships. A well-crafted resume should indicate at a glance how long you’ve been in the workforce, so keep it to one page. Avoid unusual formatting, fonts, and graphics. It should include what jobs you’ve held previously, any skills or special training you possess (such as certifications), and any additional information relevant to an interviewer’s decision about whether or not they want to hire you.
At Spot, we are interested in what you can offer via your job experience, but we also look for the following:
- Strong communication skills
- Proven relationship building
- Decision-making ability
- Energy and passion
- Are you Coachable and willing to learn
- Dependability and dedication
Spend time preparing for the interview
You put time and effort into your application and resume, earning you a coveted interview. You now have the opportunity to prove why you are the right candidate.
- Prepare for interview questions.
- Practice your answers.
- Research the company, interviewer, industry, and job duties before going into an interview or conversation.
To start, get into the right mindset by reviewing what the job entails and its description. As it relates to opportunities at Spot, be sure you also familiarize yourself with the following:
- Our history: In 2009, without any external investors or funding, Andrew Elsener and Andy Schenck founded Spot with the belief that there was a better way to move freight. Through dedication, hard work, and building the right relationships, they developed Spot into one of the fastest-growing 3PL providers in the country. By hiring the right people and developing advanced technologies, Spot’s trusted team of unmatched logistics professionals works tirelessly to connect just-in-time shippers to its extensive carrier networks to create a stronger supply chain and lasting relationships.
- What we do: Spot provides custom-tailored logistics solutions for anyone who has shipping challenges. We do this through relentless effort, industry knowledge, and advanced technologies.
- Why we are different: At Spot, we’ve built a team of motivated and knowledgeable employees dedicated to ensuring that every shipment, every customer, and every contract carrier is taken care of. That’s why we’re always available no matter what time or day.
These steps will give you insight into what is expected of you when answering questions during your interview. It will make you better prepared at a moment’s notice to respond in a confident manner that demonstrates your company knowledge and personality traits.
Arrive early and dress professionally
The best way to be prepared for a job interview or conversation is to arrive early and dress professionally. Bring a couple of printed copies of your resume along with a notepad to take notes. If it applies to the role you are interviewing for, be prepared to present and discuss your portfolio. Once you’re in the office, make sure you are polite to anyone who helps you along the way.
Post interview
The period after the interview is crucial as it allows you to present yourself as the right candidate again and address additional points from your conversation.
Once you assess your performance and determine if the position is the right fit for you, make an additional connection. We encourage you to reach out to your interviewer after 24 hours with a brief personal note of gratitude. If warranted, based on your conversation, send any additional supporting documents that are relevant and ask any further questions you may have.
Once you’ve done this, remain calm and wait. Sometimes internal evaluations take time for several reasons. If a week or two has passed without notice (or the time period you confirmed during the interview), follow up via email to demonstrate your continued interest.
With this information and the proper preparation, you will be well-equipped for your interview. At Spot, motivated employees can chart their own course while meeting customers’ needs and building relationships that form the basis for a rewarding, successful career.
